The octadecanoid signalling pathway in plants mediates a response to ultraviolet radiation

Article Abstract:

Ultraviolet irradiation in tomato leaves causes activation of lipases, releasing linolenic acid which induces the intracellular octadecanoid defence signaling pathway. The stimulation of the pathway normally occurs after wounding. The defensive response of the proteinase inhibitor I and II genes to UV-C and UV-B is octadecanoid pathway-mediated. The response fails to occur in a tomato mutant defective in this pathway. Maximal induction of defence genes occurs at cyclobutane pyrimidine dimer formation levels of less than 0.2 dimers per gene.

Production of multiple plant hormones from a single polyprotein precursor

Article Abstract:

It has been established that polypeptide hormones in plants can occur from a polyprotein precursor. It was established that structurally diverse polypeptide hormones in different plant species can perform similar signalling roles.
