The scientific muscle of Brazil's health biotechnology
Article Abstract:
The growth of health biotechnology that is attributed to the research efforts of the public sector is analyzed. The lessons derived that help in encouraging an environment for venture creation such as focusing on developing a strong scientific capacity, exploiting local biodiversity for health and gaining access to key actors are highlighted.

Health biotechnology in China-reawakening of a giant
Article Abstract:
China is focusing on several subfields of health biotechnology, including therapeutic antibodies, severe acquired respiratory syndrome (SARS) research, gene therapy, functional genomic and stem cells. The main features of the Chinese health biotechnology sector are discussed and examples of its products are given.
