The transcriptional repressor JHDM3A demethylates trimethyl histone H3 lysine 9 and lysine 36

Article Abstract:

The transcriptional repressor jumonji C (JmjC)-domain-containing histone demethylase 3A (JHDM3A) is capable of removing the me3 group from modified H3 lysine 9 (H3K9) and H3 lysine 36 (H3K36). Overexpression of JHDM3A abrogates recruitment of heterochromatin protein 1 (HP1) to heterochromatin, indicating a role for JHDM3A in antagonizing methylated H3K9 nucleated events, also indicating its function in euchromatin to remove histone methylation marks associated with active transcription.

A role for cell-cycle-regulated histone H3 lysine 56 acetylation in the DNA damage response

Article Abstract:

A demonstration that lysine 56 (K56) acetylation is an abundant modification of newly synthesized histone H3 molecules that are incorporated into chromosomes during S phase is presented. Defects in the acetylation of K56 in histone H3 result in sensitivity to genotoxic agents that cause DNA strand breaks during replication.

p53 is regulated by the lysine demethylase LSD1

Article Abstract:

The article describes that in human cells the histone lysine-specific demethylase LSD1 interacts with p53 to repress p53-mediated transcriptional activation to inhibit the role of p53 in promoting apoptosis.
