Toxin-induced conformational changes in a potassium channel revealed by solid-state NMR

Article Abstract:

Using high-resolution solid-state NMR spectroscopy, high-affinity binding of the scorpion toxin kaliotoxin to a chimaeric K+ channel is associated with significant structural rearrangements in both molecules. It involves a combined analysis of chemical shifts and proton-proton distances and demonstrates that solid-state NMR is a sensitive method for analysing the structure of a membrane protein-inhibitor complex.

Assembly and function of a bacterial genotoxin

Article Abstract:

The subunits of tripartite cytolethal distending toxin (CDT), CtbA and CtbC associate with the nuclease CdtB to form a holotoxin that translocates CdtB into the host cell, where it acts as a genotoxin by creating DNA lesions. In addition, the molecular details if CdtB activation, and others, provide targets for therapeutic design to inactivate this toxin.

Portability of paddle motif function and pharmacology in voltage sensors

Article Abstract:

The portability and the modularity of the paddle motif function in voltage sensors are discussed. The analysis reveals that these motifs are highly modular and hence act as important pharmacological target.
