Turbulent times

Article Abstract:

The success of the world's biggest passenger airliner Airbus would depend on the regulatory decision to be made by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) suggesting more stringent horizontal and vertical spacing requirements for the Airbus's A380 at cruising altitudes. The increased spacing requirements would defeat the whole rationale for the A380, which would be left with very few take-off and landing slots as compared to the flights of other airliners.

Environmental biosafety and transgenic potato in a centre of diversity for this crop

Article Abstract:

The Nuttfield Council on Bioethics suggests that introgression of genetic material into related species in centres of crop biodiversity is an insufficient justification to bar the use of genetically modified crops in the developing world. Findings related to this and other aspects of environmental biosafety for genetically modified potato are reported in its main centre of biodiversity, the central Andes.
