Universities fear repercussions as NIH tunes conflicts policy

Article Abstract:

A high-profile investigation into conflict-of-interest policies at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is having an impact way beyond Washington, as universities around the United States work out how it might affect their medical research centers. For the moment, US universities are not in line for a direct grilling by Congress: staff members on the committee leading the NIH investigation say they do not plan to spread their net to campuses.

Index aim for fair ranking of scientists

Article Abstract:

Scientific academies can now be elected using a citation based league table that measures research achievement with simplistic reading and thereby does not leave much scope for misinterpretation. This index would also help in determining membership to scientific societies as well as funding and tenure decisions.
