Uranium-oxide-based catalysts for the destruction of volatile chloro-organic compounds

Article Abstract:

Environment polluting hydrocarbons and chlorine-containing organic compounds are difficult to destroy safely and economically. Uranium-oxide-based catalysts break down a wide range of chloro-organic pollutants at low temperatures, leading to lower energy costs. These catalysts are resistant to deactivation by organochlorine compounds, unlike the industrial catalysts that are based on precious metals. The uranium-oxide catalysts also fail to result in the formation of toxic by-products such as dibenzofurans and dioxins.
