Using character concordance to define taxonomic and conservation units

Article Abstract:

Issues discussed concern the methods scientists use to assess the conservation status of endangered species, focusing on taxonomical and morphological classification schemes. Topics addressed include the controversial species classification of the black turtle, the character concordance approach which classifies evolutionarily distinct taxa based on independent characteristics that co-vary, and evolutionary differentiation within a species.
