Vasoactive effects of fibrinogen on saphenous vein

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted on the effects of thrombin, fibrinogen and fibrinopeptides on the isometric tension of saphenous vein rings. Progressive relaxation was observed when intact veins were incubated with fibrinogen and the supernatant placed in a vein ring stripped of endothelium. The results indicate that specific fibrinogen receptors on the saphenous vein endothelium trigger vasomotor responses.
