Phagocytic docking without shocking

Article Abstract:

New studies of nematode worms and human cells investigates apoptosis, in which scavenger cells ingest intact dying cells to keep organisms healthy. The study examines the mechanisms of apoptosis and how apoptotic cells reach their destination within phagocytes. It is proposed that genes ced-5 and cd14 are implicated in the process, which involves the tethering of apoptotic cells before the phagocytic cells closes around them.
