Visual illusion from running

Article Abstract:

The sensation of accelerated self-motion while walking on solid ground occurs after fast jogging or running on a treadmill and is strongest after treadmill running with eyes open. The effect is weak after treadmill running while blindfolded. The visual illusion is due to the occurrence of unconscious inference. The phenomena involves the recalibration of the mechanisms estimating associations between sensory messages. The visual illusions produced under different conditions are described.

Seeing backwards in time

Article Abstract:

Experimental analysis of backward masking in visually attentive subjects shows that top-down mechanisms such as voluntary visual attention regulate backward masking. Backward masking is a visual illusion, which suggests that perception is not instantaneous but that it occurs sequentially in distinct stages. This illusion is also sensitive to color, orientation and spatial frequency.
