Wind-dominated optical line emission from accretion disks around luminous cataclysmic variable stars

Article Abstract:

An accretion disk wind model explains the observation of single-peaked emission lines associated with high-luminosity cataclysmic variables. The model visualizes the emergence of disk wind in a thin layer around the star. The single-peaked emission lines result from a sharp anisotropy in the optical depth of the disk caused by the accelerating wind. The model also reinforces the belief that accretion disks are present in nova-like variables and quasars that exhibit single-peaked optical line profiles.

Origin of the cataclysmic late heavy bombardment period of the terrestrial planets

Article Abstract:

The Late Heavy Bombardment (LHB) that was triggered by the rapid migration of the giant planets is proposed, which occurred after a long quiescent period. The planetesimal disk outside the orbits of the planets is destabilized, causing a sudden massive delivery of planetesimals to the inner Solar System, during this burst of migration.
