Article Abstract:

Animal rights advocates feel that, until people learn not to treat their pets as their personal property, pets will be treated as commodities. Advocacy group, In Defense Animals, has launched a campaign titled "They Are Not Our Property, We Are Not Their Owners," and the City Council of Boulder, Colorado has made it law for people to be referred to as the guardians, not the owners, of their pets.

From civil rights to animal rights: an evolution

All civilized societies must end the practice of cruelty to animals in the name of science and profit. The moral, ethical and philosophical foundations of the growing movement for animal rights is presented and discussed.
