Supporter of folk artists
Article Abstract:
Kenneth S. Goldstein co-founded the Philadelphia Folk Festival. He worked hard to have artists from abroad for the festival and was a host to many. For most British and Irish folk artists who came, the Festival was their first contact with American audience. Goldstein's support for the visiting folk artist extended beyond providing food and lodging. He lent help in many ways: writing letters to facilitate working visas; lending equipment for field recording and helping shape the text for album notes.

Oilseeds of discontent
Article Abstract:
The General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) worked well on manufactured goods, but failed to reconcile agricultural interests, specifically those of the EC and US. The Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) of the EC allowed farm subsidies which were at odds with US trading policy. The EC agreed to reform the CAP and looked to GATT to agree its decisions. The situation was exacerbated by arguements over oilseed quotas, which led to the US threatening to impose high tariffs on some EC goods.

Et tu, ecru?
Article Abstract:
Lebowitz is unbending in what she considers style. And for her style never changes. Brooks Bros had always been a dependable source for the kind of clothes she wore. But in 1988 when the company was taken over by Marks and Spencer, it too changed. Style is now set by focus groups, and the like.
