Layout or design? Yes, there really is a difference
Article Abstract:
The terms 'layout' and 'design' have a similar meaning but their use can lead to contrasting results. The difference is related to attitude and purpose. Although layout is not a bad approach, it is not the best option given the volume and complexity of information being provided. The best approach is design, which is handled by visual journalists. Newspapers that have given visual journalists a free hand in gathering, reporting and presenting the news are producing a publication that easily attracts and retains the attention of readers.

Designers are people to be reckoned with
Article Abstract:
Publication designers are usually the people who get the blame if a newspaper or serial does not appeal to its readers. It should be noted that there is more to design that mere visuals. Designers must be wary of the materials they accept before they put the appropriate visuals to it. They should demand that the story be as strong as the editor wants it to be. Designers must not take part in fooling the readers by putting too much visuals on flat and dull stories.
