The bikini
Article Abstract:
The 'birth' of the bikini is generally thought to have taken place at the same time as the explosion of the first atom bomb, on Bikini Atoll in 1946, but in fact this was purely a marketing hype. The first 'real' bikini was the 'Swoon Suit', made in 1941 by Margit Fellegi, fashion designer, and Fred Cole, a young manufacturer in the US. The history of the bikini can be traced back further however, to Roman times, when women wore two-piece outfits at the public baths. After that time however, minimalist swimwear came into disfavour, particularly in Victorian times.
