Litigation avoidance -- a must for every employer
Article Abstract:
Avoiding litigation is one of the most serious challenges faced by businesses in today's highly competitive marketplace. There are a number of laws and regulations from which legal claims can arise and which may create potentially deleterious exposure for companies in terms of monetary damages, legal fees and damage to employee morale. These laws include various anti-discrimination legislation, federal and states laws on wages and work hours, and laws that were previously associated only with unionized or blue collar workers such as the Occupational Safety and Health Act and the National Labor Relations Act. To preserve their organizations from the adverse effects of legal actions, employers should develop and implement proactive and pro-employee policies and procedures that are designed to minimize claims, improve employee relations, minimize exposure to claims and present a defense for claims that arise.

Will it all end in tears?
Article Abstract:
It is suggested that the Conservative party has historically met with defeat every half century. The party lost in 1846, 1906, and 1945, and it is questioned whether 1997 will be another loss for the Tories. As with previous periods of Conservative rule, the party is divided by a main policy issue, currently Europe. It is suggested that the Tory party may benefit by transforming itself into a European Christian Democratic party.
