Formaldehyde fixation contributes to detoxification for growth of a nonmethylotroph, Burkholderia cepacia TM1, on vanillic acid
Article Abstract:
Results reveal that 3-hexulose-6-phosphate synthase and 6-phospho-3-hexuloisomerase are important for the detoxification and assimilation of formaldehyde as well as vanillic acid in nonmethylotrophic Burkholderia cepacia TM1. Data indicate that incorporaion of labeled formaldehyde into cell components and degradation of vanillic acid increase by overexpression of the genes encoding the two enzymes.

A methylotrophic pathway participates in pectin utilization by Candida boidinii
Article Abstract:
Research demonstrates that induction of pectin-depolymerizing enzymes and two methanol-metabolizing peroxisomal enzymes occurs along with increases in the number of peroxisomes and cell density in Candida boidinii grown on 1% pectin. Results suggest that methanol metabolism and peroxisome assembly are involved in the pectin degradation.

Aerobic and anaerobic toluene degradation by a newly isolated denitrifying bacterium, Thauera sp. strain DNT-1
Article Abstract:
Thauera sp. strain DNT-1, a strain that degrades tuolene under both aerobic and anaerobic conditions, is isolated. The initial tuolene degradation pathways present in this strain are characterized, and the control of transcription of the putative catabolic genes is investigated.
