Amid glut, farmers fight flow of Canadian wheat into U.S
Article Abstract:
Wheat growers in the US are uniting in groups, such as Rally for Rural America, or Farmers for Free Trade, to stop Canadian wheat from entering the US. According to the farmers, the system is giving unfair advantage to foreign growers and threatening their existence. Farmers have a cause for concern, since the steady influx of imported wheat is increasing 1997's unsold grain. The imports, together with record production worldwide in 1998, will reduce prices of wheat in the US to less than $3 a bushel.
