Bayer splits chemicals, polymers into three parts

Bayer Corp. will divide its plastics and polyurethane businesses into three units, namely plastics, polyurethane, and coatings and colorants on Jan. 1, 1999. The realignment is part of a strategic plan designed to expand the company's plastics and polyurethane operations. Nicholas T. Cullen, the president of Bayer's performance products unit, has been designated to head the new plastics unit, which has around 1,400 employees. Hans-Joachim Kogelnik, head of global polyurethane specialties at Bayer's global headquarters in Leverkusen, Germany, has been chosen to run the new polyurethane unit. Lastly, the new coatings and colorants unit will be supervised by John L. Williams. All three divisions will maintain their headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA.

Henderson Brothers Inc. is a privately-held independent insurance agency ranked one of the largest in Pittsburgh, PA, that is moving into a six-story building. Company equal-owners, brothers Tom and Dan Grealish made the $1 million investment in the structure at Downtown's Cultural District as a committment to the city. Henderson will move around 35 employees in the Gulf Tower and another 32 at an office in Bethel Park in spring 1999, occupying four floors of the building and leasing the two other floors.
