Murphy believes coke plant in works
Article Abstract:
LTV Steel's decision to close its coke plant in Hazelwood, PA, in 1997 does not seem to depress town head Mayor Murphy. It is because Murphy believes that talks for a new plant on the same site that LTV abandoned is already in the works. LTV is reportedly talking with Sun Co. to operate a plant that will supply the former with coke, a steelmaking ingredient made from coal. Sun is allegedly looking into the former LTV site for its new plant. However, Sun said that it has made no commitment to any of the specific sites, including the LTV site. According to Sun spokesman Bud Davis, Sun is still exploring other options for the site of its new plant.
