A telecom behemoth
Article Abstract:
AT&T's bid to purchase Tele-Communications Inc. (TCI) for $46 billion is expected to create an operation that would offer telephone, video and Internet-access services through a single connection to the home. The merger, which combines AT&T's successful brand and TCI's cable-related services, is expected to pose the most significant competition ever to local Bell telephone companies that operate across the US. The impact of the AT&T-TCI combination is expected to be significant in Pittsburgh, PA, where TCI maintains a sizable service territory.

When the color of power is green
Article Abstract:
Green Mountain Energy Resources is selling a "Wind for the Future" product, where 75% of electricity comes from renewable sources. The company believes that customers prefer purchasing cleaner power generated from windmills and solar panels than electricity from power plants or radioactive nuclear reactors. Green Mountain stated that it will arrange for a new windmill to be constructed for every 3,000 customers who sign up for its product. The utility also stated that construction for two windmills are slated to begin in September 1998.
