In Pittsburgh, retailers bear US Airways' collateral effects
Article Abstract:
The aftermath of the September 9/11 attacks in 2002 and in 2003 the pullback of US Airways led to a reducing downturn in retail sales in the Airmall at Pittsburgh's airport which otherwise had a steady growth through the 1990s. It was reported that retail sales slipped to $86.3 million in 2002 from $89.4 million, due to the fallout from 9/11 and then fell to $73.5 million as US Airways started cutting routes from Pittsburgh in 2003, mainly connecting flights.
