Tenet looks at AHERF research spending
Article Abstract:
Tenet Healthcare is undertaking an investigation of Allegheny Health, Education and Research Foundation's (AHERF) research spending. The company is seeking to find out whether Allegheny University of the Health Sciences used millions of dollars in research fundings for activities other than to conduct research. The investigation is the most recent in a string of inquires being done on AHERF. A probe by the state attorney general's office discovered that AHERF spent some $8.5 million from 23 restricted grants in dubious purposes. The Tenet probe is necessary so that the university is not forced to give back money to the agencies that awarded the grants after the university's management is switched to Drexel University in November 1998.

AHERF creditors casting an eye on AGH
Article Abstract:
The Allegheny Health, Education and Research Foundation's (AHERF) creditors are claiming the right to sell AHERF's non-bankrupt hospitals in Western Pennsylvania, including Allegheny General Hospital (AGH). The argument, which was stated in bankruptcy court, was however, contested by AGH and state Attorney General Mike Fisher, stating that AHERF is unworthy of such authority and that the foundation's fiduciary responsibility to creditors does not serve the hospital's best interests. The case involves the restraining order on Fisher, who requested for an independent trustee to oversee endowments at the hospitals in contention.

AHERF to cut 84 doctors from practice subsidiary
Article Abstract:
Allegheny Health, Education and Research Foundation (AHERF) is asking the court to allow the firm to drop 84 doctors employed by its money-losing Allegheny University Medical Practices unit in the Pittsburgh, PA, area. The move would cut the staff of the unit by 15% to 20% out of the 211 doctors employed in the area. The decision to restructure its physician practice subsidiary, which failed to meet profit expectations in the Pittsburgh and Philadelphia markets, is aimed to allow the remaining network to return to profitability.
