They're no longer coming up roses
Article Abstract:
NovaFlora Inc., a West Philadelphia, PA-based biotechnology firm that makes small rose plants, has decided to stop producing and selling miniature roses dubbed as Rose Naturel via mail order beginning May 1998. The mail order services, which was its former major revenue earner, will be scrapped in favor of genetically engineered plants such as a rose that smells like lemon or lilac. NovaFlora plans to develop new varieties fo plants using genetics considering the number of customers who want other kinds of plants other than roses. The company realized that the roses are just a by-product of a larger potential market in genetic engineering.
