'Insider' movie gives rosy-but-untrue-Tylenol recall scenario
Article Abstract:
Johnson and Johnson is portrayed in the movie 'The Insider' as having reacted swiftly in recalling Tylenol capsules from retail outlets in 1982 after a number of Chicago, IL, residents died from poisoned capsules. What the movie does not document, however, is that Johnson and Johnson re- introduced the capsules to the market some time afterward and a woman was to die in Yonkers, NY, in 1986, after taking cyanide-laced capsules. Five more poisoned capsules were subsequently found in another bottle in a nearby store. It was only then that Johnson and Johnson recalled the product once more, after which it permanently halted Tylenol capsule production.
