Fluorcarbons dissolved in supercritical carbon dioxide. NMR evidence for specific solute-solvent interactions
Article Abstract:
High-pressure high resolution nuclear magnetic resonance was used to study the chemical shifts of the proton and fluorine of fluorocarbons dissolved in supercritical CO2. The 1H and 19F chemical shifts were found to be differentially influenced by the CO2 density. The effects of CO2 density suggest specific solute-solvent interactions between CO2 and fluorinated compounds. The density-dependent 1H chemical shifts display a slight temperature dependence, while the 19F shifts exhibit an excess magnetic shielding.

Structural investigation of solute-solute interactions in aqueous solutions of tertiary butanol
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to determine the solute-solute intermolecular structural correlations in 0.06, 0.11 and 0.16 mole fraction tertiary butanol-water solutions. Hydrogen/deuterium isotopic substitution neutron diffraction methods were utilized to carry out the study. Experimental results indicated similarities among the molecular centers distribution functions at the concentrations and supported a single feature at about 5.5 Angstrom.

Microscopic understanding of preferential exclusion of compatible solute ectoine: Direct interaction and hydration alteration
Article Abstract:
The microscopic investigation of solvent spatial distributions around both met-enkephalin (M-Enk) and chymotrypsin inhibitor 2 (C12) in ectoine aqueous solution is discussed. Results reveal that the preferential exclusion of ectoine from the peptide surface was weaker in the smaller M-Enk than in the larger C12.
