Optical-cell evidence for superheated ice under gas-hydrate-forming conditions

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze superheated ice under gas-hydrate-forming conditions. A small high-pressure optical cell that duplicated the hydrate-synthesis process was utilized to carry out the analysis. Experimental results indicated the presence of hydrate-coated ice grains at 290 K at 30 MPa in CH4 and282 K at 6 MPa in CO2. Findings also showed that the initial surface characteristics of the ice grains were not altered until the grains were warmed to the H2O liquids.

Isothermal compressibility maxima of hydrogen fluoride in the supercritical and superheated vapor regions

Article Abstract:

The potential existence of a second peak in the isothermal compressibility of hydrogen fluoride (HF) that extends from the superheated vapor (SHV) region into the supercritical (SC) regions is explored. The isothermal compressibility ([K.sub.T]) has resulted with and without a Poisson-type oligomer distribution, indicating that once this distribution scheme is specified, the [K.sub.T] appears.

Using heat capacity and compressibility to choose among two-state models of liquid water

Article Abstract:

Several models have expressed the properties of liquid water in terms of contributions from low-density and high-density components. The Robinson model is superior for isothermal compressibility ([[kappa].sub.T]) and it has given the most reliable compositions and individual-component properties.
