Layer-by-layer assembled membranes of protonated 18-azacrown-6 and polyvinylsulfate and their application for highly efficient anion separation
Article Abstract:
Layer-by-layer assembled films of 1,4,7,10,13,16-hexaazacyclooctadecane (18-azacrown-6, hexacyclen, aza6) and potassium polyvinylsulfate (PVS) are characterized by using ultraviolet/visible and ATR-infrared (IR) spectroscopic methods. A model is described for explaining the high separation factors for mono- and divalent ions after the treatment with copper(II) acetate and also the origin of the high transport selectivity.

Bulk melting of ice at the limit of superheating
Article Abstract:
A 2-color IR spectroscopy is used to study ultrafast bulk melting of ice after laser-induced temperature jump in HDO:[D.sub.2]O system. The studies provide insight into experimental manipulation of H-bonded materials and hydrogen bonding in nature.

Ab initio-based all-mode two-dimensional infrared spectroscopy of a sugar molecule
Article Abstract:
An ab initio-based all-mode two-dimensional infrared (2D IR) spectra simulation approach which was constructed by using deuterated glycoaldehyde (C[H.sub.2]OHCDO], the smallest sugar as a model molecule is demonstrated.
