Molecular modelling studies of a nerve growth factor receptor
Article Abstract:
A precise atom-level model of the high-affinity nerve growth factor (NGF) receptor has been developed. A geometry for the receptor binding site for NGF was proposed based on computer simulations. Variable basis annealing calculations which were Monte Carlo simulated were used to establish the structures of the complexes for four entirely active NGF analogues with the second leucine-rich motif of trkA, said to be a binding site for NGF. The three-dimensional structures of the binding domains of the totally active NGF analogues are organized in advance for stereochemical fit with the second leucine-rich motif of trkA.

Alumina-assisted reduction of carbonyl compounds with sodium borohydride in hexane
Article Abstract:
Alumina-assisted reduction of carbonyl compounds with sodium borohydride in hexane has been studied. The sodium borohydride-based biphasic system can be used successfully for reduction of unsaturated substrates and of steroidal and very hindered ketones. A broad range of compounds were smoothly reduced with a combination of common, inexpensive reagents in hexane to give corresponding alcohols selectively and with high yields. Conditions were mild and neutral.
