Oxidation of olefins catalyzed by iron complexes of bleomycin model compounds bearing a hydrophobic or hydrophilic steric factor
Article Abstract:
Olefin oxidation catalyzed by iron complexes of bleomycin-model compounds with a hydrophilic or hydrophobic steric factor has been examined. The bleomycin-model iron complexes that have a steric factor, either hydrophilic or -phobic around the sixth coordination sphere, showed substrate stereoselectivity and specificity to a considerable degree in oxidation of cis- and trans-olefins in a solution of methanol with hydrogen peroxide. Catalytic efficiency of the complexes was related in some way to the steric factor's characteristics, not oxygen-activating ability of the complexes.

The rhodium(II)-catalyzed aziridination of olefins with (((4-nitrophenyl)sulfonyl)imino)phenyl-lambda3-iodane
Article Abstract:
Rhodium(II)-catalyzed aziridination of olefins with (((4-nitrophenyl)sulfonyl)imino)phenyl-lambda3-iodane with (Rh2(OAc)4) as catalyst gives yields as high as 85% when the olefin is in great excess. A one-step mechanism for movement of the nitrenoid moiety to the catalyst from the catalyst would be consistent with experimental findings.
