Scanning probe studies of single nanostructures
Article Abstract:
The composition of nanostructures have been studied by using scanning probe microscopy (SPM). The nanostructures studied are nanometer-scale particles or distributed structures deposited or created on surfaces but not single carbon nanotubes, single DNA chains or single antigen-antibody complexes. Nanostructures show great potential as materials with chemical, physical and electronic properties that can be altered. SPM lends itself very well in the study of nanostructures because it combines topographic and spectroscopic measurements. They can also manipulate atoms and molecules so that nanostructures to be studied can be generated.

Organic polyvalent iodine compounds
Article Abstract:
The chemistry of polyvalent organic iodine compounds can be used in the synthetic transformations, natural product synthesis, and in the biological processes. Their antifungal and antimicrobial activities enable their use as disinfectants and as preservatives for commercial goods. The unique properties and the general aspects of these compounds are described. Major progress have been made in the preparation and use of alkynyl- and alkenyliodonium salts, azido-, amido, imino- and cyanoiodanes, and perfluroalkylidonium derivatives.

Self-assembly of discrete cyclic nanostructures mediated by transition metals
Article Abstract:
A discussion of discrete metal-based structures and of the problems associated with the preparation, properties, structure and applications of discrete metal-mediated self-assembled nanostructures is presented. It is argued that there is still a significant challenge associated with developing fully functional molecular devices with the required electronic, optical and magnetic properties.
