Article Abstract:

Liquid aqueous solutions of isomeric butanediols (BTD) form clathrate structures resulting from hydrophobic hydration. Water behaves similarly at infinite dilution in 1,3-BTD, 1,4-BTD, and 2,3-BTD. 1,2-BTD molecules are more hydrophobic and exhibit smaller volume effects in standard transfer function of volume for water molecules.
