Bank bids for housebuilder
Article Abstract:
Housebuilder Charles Church, which is currently experiencing financial difficulties, is the subject of a 22.6 million pounds sterling takeover bid from the Royal Bank of Scotland, to which it owes 14.5 million pounds sterling. The bank has made an offer of 12.8 million pounds sterling to buy out the nine other banks which swapped debt for shares in Charles Church in 1992. These banks are owed 26 million pounds sterling, giving Charles Church a total debt of 40.5 million pounds sterling.

Miller's purchase heralds growth era

Expansion moves at privately owned property, mining and contracting concern Miller have recently included the purchase of Wimpey Mining. The deal makes Miller the largest opencast coal contractor in the UK. The company is planning further expansion in all its main areas of operation, building on its position as the 22nd-largest contractor in the UK. However, it is not necessarily looking to expand aggressively.

Equity fund to target PFI projects
Article Abstract:
Innisfree PFI Fund, which will be operated by an independent fund management concern, will be the first equity fund in the UK to focus on government PFI schemes. It could support projects including a prototype design-and-build-finance-operate road and a privately financed hospital. The money will be invested in PFI projects where the construction cost is 25-300 million pounds sterling.
