Barclays economic forecast
Article Abstract:
Statistics show that 1992 new house sales are on the same level as 1991. Housebuilders' gross revenue in the year to Sep 1992 is 11% higher than the year to Sep 1991, due to stamp duty exemption. Contractors' profit margins are the same as the end of 1991. 1992 and 1993 revenues will decline due to the industry slump and building materials' price rises. The number of construction companies with bad debts has been reduced in the year to June 1992. The Trade Indemnity still reports an increase in the number of main contractors with large debts.
