Bird's nest soup and BRE's: getting familiar with DM in Beijing
Article Abstract:
Direct marketing activity in the People's Republic of China is reportedly limited to direct mail and coupon advertising produced by mail order companies or Chinese operations of multinational corporations. Recent estimates made by direct marketers report that China's market for mail order items is about 50 million people, majority of whom are women ages 20 to 40; with purchase averaging 500 yuan or US$60. According to China Post, nearly 4% of the 8 billion pieces of mail delivered each year in the country qualifies as direct mail. China Post is working to step up its role in the emerging direct marketing industry in China. The postal service is offering sourcing lists to interested DMs for $.30 to $.60 a name.
