Building Materials: roofing
Article Abstract:
Pitched roofs have been found to have double the defects of flat roofs, despite the fact that flat roofs have a worse quality reputation. The defects were less likely to be due to poor materials and more likely due to errors in construction or design. Supplement examines use of materials in roofing, including clay tiles, stainless steel sheeting and thatched roofs. Building regulations concerning roofs are also examined, together with wind load analysis and new products.

Materials life costs
Article Abstract:
Hardwood windows are a more costly option to install in buildings, although they tend to have a much longer life span than softwood windows, resulting in an overall reduction in maintenance costs during the life of the building. The most expensive type of hardwood window is permeable treated wood, which has a standard life span of up to 50 years. Regular painting and protection from the elements will help to lengthen the life span of window materials.
