Article Abstract:
Many observers believe that the UK construction industry should follow the example of manufacturing in areas such as investment in research. In fact, construction is very different from manufacturing. There are ways in which construction can learn from manufacturing, but it can also learn from any sector in which customer requirements are fulfilled through organization, skills, technology and creativity. It is important to foster creativity in construction, as in the film industry.

Article Abstract:
There has been a decline in procurement lead times in a number of trade areas of the UK construction industry. Procurement lead times for almost all types of piling have fallen, and this has also been the case for reinforced concrete frames, uninterruptable power supplies and raised floors. In contrast, there has been an increase in lead times for voice and data cabling, atrium roofs and the electrical trade. Lead times for ductwork have remained stable.
