Citrus Express poised for European onslaught

A media campaign, backed by an initial $5-million budget, is expected to be launched in Europe in June 1998 to promote the rollout of the Citrus Express in a number of countries. Atlantic Promotions Inc., a Montreal, Quebec-based manufacturer of consumer products that oversees marketing of the kitchen device, created an advertisement that shows how fast Citrus Express can slice a grapefruit without a squirt. Florida Department of Citrus is also supporting the marketing efforts for Citrus Express in Europe with its plans to launch a $5million campaign to support grapefruit in Europe via print ads and billboards that also endorses the Citrus Express.

Kent and Spiegel pins hopes on glamour patch

Kent and Spiegel Direct Inc., the Culver City, CA-based direct radio and television marketer that filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in May 1998, is hoping to have a hit in its new informercial touting Glamour Patch, a cosmetic product for reducing wrinkles. In July 1998, the firm sought permission from the bankrutpcy court and a committee of unsecured creditors to use about $4 million in cash collateral to cover the cost of inventory, media and other expenses related to the launch of the Glamour Patch. The company expressed optimism that a successful Glamour Patch launch will restore the court's and creditors' confidence in the firm.

NBC plans summer retail push on video specials
Article Abstract:
NBC intends to launch a campaign that will actually sell its video tapes in a direct marketing style in summer of 1998. NBC started marketing the video specials, which include video versions of "Merlin," a two-part TV movie about the fabled sorcerer, and video highlights of the late night series "Saturday Night Live," through direct response TV campaign in May 1998. NBC is yet to finalize a marketing strategy but an NBC executive noted that the network intends to carry out an exclusive direct response sell period before it will proceed to broad retail.
