Compaq to assemble computers in Germany, sell direct
Article Abstract:
Compaq, the world's biggest personal computer maker, has partnered with Schaefer IT Logistics, a German manufacturing and assembly concern, in an effort to bring down the prices of its models in Germany. High pricing has largely stymied Compaq's effort to increase its share of the German market where the company is currently tenth ranked. The company will also try to tap other distribution channels such as telephone and the Internet where it will try to sell the Presario 5501 Minitower, which will sell for 1,699 German marks ($1,009).
