Contracts survey
Article Abstract:
There was little change in the number of contracts and planning applications for building projects during the 1st qtr, 1992. Since the 4th qtr, 91 the number of projects under one million pounds sterling and those over ten million pounds increased slightly but mid-priced projects declined. The largest falls in the number of new projects were in the retail and commercial and hotel and catering sectors. The statistics show no evidence of a recovery from recession despite the result of the general election.

Contracts survey
Article Abstract:
Research undertaken by Building/ABI for the last 3 months of 1992 shows that the UK construction market is stabilising. It will not be until 1994 that benefits will occur. Housing accounted for 51% of all projects in the fourth Qtr of 1992 compared with 36.6% in 1991. Commercial and retail projects fell from 16.6% to 11.9% in the same period. Industrial jobs fell from 10.5% to 8.2%. Planning applications in the South East increased from 18.5% in the third Qtr 1992 to 20.2% in the fourth Qtr.
