Demo days with an electronic edge

Article Abstract:

The United States Sailboat Show in Annapolis, MD in Oct 1999 has achieved an innovative twist in the concept of demonstration days event. The show screens potential buyers in advance and matches them with boats to fit their individual tastes and pocketbook. The potential customers are then assigned designated times to try out their ideal boats. Laura Hershfeld, who engineered this unique feat, consequently enabled 23 multihull boat manufacturers to benefit in terms of new business and 1,000 boat buyers to benefit in terms of selecting their vessel of choice.
