Fundraising in Y2K gaining momentum

Article Abstract:

The success of online fundraising efforts associated with Hurricane Mitch relief work was a precursor of the explosive growth in online donations. The Red Cross reported that it raised more than $1.2 million in donations in a single month in response to the Kosovo crisis. The possibility of raising signficant amounts of money through the Internet has finally become a reality for charitable organizations. However, most charities say that donations via the Internet is still a small fraction of their revenue even if the public's comfort level with online donation is growing.

New wealth offers a learning opportunity

Article Abstract:

Nonprofit organizations should be clear about their mission and purpose to be able to conduct fundraising efforts succesfully. They should be able to speak about the outcomes of their programs. They should also learn to appreciate donors' perspective on business practices and return on investments. On the other hand, donors must learn to appreciate the mission of nonprofit organizations. They should share good business practices with nonprofits and realize that their donations are meant to touch the heart and not the business ledgers.
