Held to ransom
Article Abstract:
UK construction workers are threatening to take industrial action which could result in further delays to the completion of the Millennium Dome being constructed at Greenwich, London at a cost of 800 million pounds sterling. The main unrest comes from steel erectors who are threatening industrial action on several other high profile construction projects if demands are not met for higher hourly rates of pay. All affected projects must be completed by the end of 1999 in time for year 2000 celebrations.

Brand-new outfit
Article Abstract:
UK supermarket chain Tesco has introduced a number of measures designed to improve the image of its construction sites. It is obliging contractors to purchase specially designed work clothes for their own workers and those of their subcontractors, and is setting up a visitor centre at each construction site. The use of a uniform for site workers has generally been welcomed by both managers and labourers, who feel that it gives the construction industry a more professional image.
