The UK Department of the Environment and the Manchester TEC/Business Link is to review standards and procedures used by small construction businesses to promote and improve preferred business practices. Firms in and around Manchester, UK, will be audited to determine common areas of difficulty and routes to improvement. Business Link services will be made available to help some enterprises adopt a professional approach to business.

Exhibition puts steel in the frame

The RIBA Heinz Gallery is currently holding an exhibition which traces the history of the use of steel as a building material. It begins with the work of American architects in the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s, and considers the influence of 'Californian Arts and Architecture' magazine. It also looks at technological innovations in more recent years.
