Jupiter, AOL rush into Latin America

Jupiter Communications LLC has entered the Latin American market, heating up the race for market share in this market between it and rival America Online Inc. Jupiter plans to offer an array of research services to the tiny but growing Latin American Internet market. It estimates that 9 million Latin Americans will have Internet access by Dec 31, 1999, and projects that the number of Internet users in this region will increase annually by 50% to 38 million by 2003.

Harris Interactive in Brazilian marketing alliance

Article Abstract:

Indicator Pesquisa de Mercado, a Brazilian market research firm, announced in May 2000 that it was partnering with Harris Interactive, a global provider of Internet-based market research services. Indicator, which has branches in Argentina and Portugal, will now be known as Indicator/Harris Interactive. The market research business in Brazil is estimated to be worth $250 million a year, according to Indicator.

Gateway taps Brazil's PC market through alliance

Article Abstract:

Gateway Inc has signed a strategic alliance with Vitech America Inc, a Miami, FL-based company that is one of Brazil's biggest manufacturers and direct sellers of personal computers and peripherals. The agreement grants Vitech an exclusive license to market the Gateway brand in Brazil, the first time Gateway has licensed its brand. Gateway also acquired a 22% stake in Vitech for $31 million.
