Lead times
Article Abstract:
Workloads for the UK construction industry continue to be healthy into the third quarter 1999, with some companies turning away work to focus on key projects. Lead times are rising for metal windows, precast concrete frames, made-to-measure furniture, brickwork and generators, and are falling for steelwork and wall finishes and decorations. Rotary piling and suspended ceilings show no change in lead time. An analysis of the labor market for bricklayers is also included.

Don't worry, be happy: want to keep your head above water in the construction business? Then set realistic targets, treat your staff well and don't let the bad times get you down
Article Abstract:
Those in the construction industry must set realistic targets and aim to break even, as the industry is not one that produces steadily rising profit figures. There is a need to provide a long term growth pattern which shareholders and banks are comfortable with. The industry is resistant to change, and partnerships have been heralded as a way of avoiding conflict.
