Mercury sues BASS, charging breach of contract

Mercury Marine, the US' biggest outboard engine builder, has filed suit against Bass Anglers Sportsman Society (BASS). The suit, which was filed in a Wisconsin state court, alleges that Montgomery, AL-based BASS has failed to honor a contract that was to have made Mercury the official and exckusive outboard engine for BASS-sponsored fishing tournaments. The contract took efect with the 1998-1999 season and runs through 2002-2003. Mercury's suit also includes misrepresentation and false advertising charges.

Mercury gets an edge in Japanese market
Article Abstract:
Mercury Marine, the US' biggest outboard manufacturer, has been given permission by the Japanese government to ship engines into Japan without its productss undergoing government inspection. The 'factory approval' status was granted by the Japanese government after numerous inspection visits of representatives to the company's production facilities. With such designation, Fond du Lac, W, based Mercury becomes more price competitive in the Japanese market.
