Reseller pays $1m in slamming case

Bloomfield, NJ-based Minimum Rate Pricing Inc. (MRP) has been ordered to pay a fine of $1 million for allegations of an illegal practice, called slamming. A 19-state judgement accused the telecommunications reseller of changing the long-distance carriers of consumers without their permission. MRP was fined three months after it withdrew hundreds of thousands of hours from not less than ten service agencies. The reseller maintained that its parent firm, Cedar Grove, NJ-based National Tele-Communications could not continue to do business until the resolution of issues pertaining to the company and its subsidiaries.

DHL to put $30 million in Latin America expansion move
Article Abstract:
DHL intends to invest $30 million into the growth of its business in Latin America in 1999 because of the new Latin American perspective being adopted by US businesses which used to focus on Asian markets. DHL spokesperson Kristen Thoss believes that the company will post the most significant growth in Latin America despite the existence of bigger markets in the world. DHL will be renovating facilities in Peru, Brazil, and Peru while it upgrades its base in Panama City, Panama. In addition, the courier service will acquire three Boeing 727 planes which will be used to serve the Latin American market.
