My patch
Article Abstract:
Robert Florey is the project manager on Tishman International's One Capitol Mall, Sacramento, Ca. site. The building is in a sensitive area, adjoining Sacramento's historic tourist quarter. Florey aims to keep the building work as unobtrusive as possible while running a tight and efficient operation. He is responsible for budgeting, selecting contractors and daily running of the project. He checks suppliers and contractors carefully. The site is cleaner than a British site due to American health and safety regulations and the workforce is all unionised.

My patch
Article Abstract:
Two French building site managers describe their responsibilities and methods of working. Paul de Vecchi works for contractor, Saec and is supervising the demolition work on a site in Grenoble, France. He believes good communications are the most important factor in the smooth operation of the project. Joel Mazet works for Electricitie de France on a nuclear power station site. Both see their jobs as providing an interface between the builders and the public as well as ensuring high quality work.

My patch: Andy Batehup
Article Abstract:
Andy Batehup is project manager on Bovis Construction's 10 Ludgate Place site in London, England. He will have the building completed for a cost of 98 pounds sterling per square foot, less than the original estimate and much less than other comparable buldings in the city. Batehup runs the site democratically with daily meetings and a flexible approach to his schedule. Batehup finds the job exciting and particularly enjoys working with large machines.
